Much of the work in this section can be seen publicly, exhibited and available in various commercial galleries and agencies. I do of course live on Merseyside, so Liverpool features strongly here in my choice of subject matter among other themes and motifs. The contemporary urban environment also is a useful theme which allows me to explore alternative interpretations, media and processes. I’m experimenting here for instance with different colour "schemes", or what I would call colour structures, which are not related directly to a literal representation, as well as the contrasting of differing levels of abstraction and definition within a single painting. Other series such as the coastal motifs and figurative Jazz musicians relate more directly to the experimental areas of my activity. This is concerned particularly with the search for a language of expression in terms of the role of colour, mark making, and the physical properties of media and process.
